How to read the tables
Each type has one section. The heading is the name the Selected Layers filter shows for the type; the JSON type in brackets is what the style file carries and what the layer row's tooltip and the JSON tab show. The tables list the properties in the order the Properties column lists them, one sub-tab at a time. The two structural sub-tabs, Render Type and Zoom Range, edit the layer itself rather than its paint and are described on the Properties column page, so they are not repeated in the tables; every type has Zoom Range, and Render Type appears only on a layer drawn over your own data (see below).
Column Meaning Sub-tab The tab in the Style tab of the Properties column that holds the property. UI label The name shown in the property list. JSON key The key in the layer's paint object, as the Editable JSON shows it. text-content and contour_interval are layer fields, not paint; in the style file, text-content is written as label_text.label_expression (see Text ). Kind colour, number, enum, boolean, icon (an image id from the Images screen), text expression, or a layer field. Zoom stops Whether the value can be a list of stops between zoom 0 and 17. A property marked no holds one value for every zoom. Range / options What the panel enforces when you type a number, or the choices of an enum. An empty cell means the panel accepts any number. Default The value a layer of this type starts with when Studio creates it from a data source. Empty means the property is not set at creation and the map engine uses its own built-in default.
Enum options are written as the names the panel shows; the style file stores them as the numbers in brackets in the following table.

The Editable JSON in Studio shows colours as hex (#rrggbb), and the defaults below are written that way. The style file itself stores every colour as an integer; see Colours . Opacity is stored as a fraction from 0 to 1 and shown as a percentage. Offsets and translations are in map units. Text sizes and icon sizes are in millimetres on screen. Line widths are not screen units: the map engine scales them with the camera height, so the same value draws differently at different zooms; start from the values in the official templates. A border width (line-outline-width) is added on each side of the line, so its full width is the inner width plus twice the border. A property's zoom-stop curve is interpolated with one of the easings listed on the Properties column page; linear is the default.
Render Type
The Render Type sub-tab ("Render as") is offered only on a layer whose source is not the base map and whose type is one of the four options, which in practice means a layer built from one of your own data sources. The options are: Symbol (symbol), Symbols Group (symbol group), Line (polyline), Area (polygon). Changing it replaces the layer's paint with the starting paint of the new type; only the Icon Overlap setting is kept. It is described on the Properties column page.
